Trauma-Informed Editing
If you’re seeking trauma-informed editorial or coaching support but my schedule is full—or if you’d like a more affordable way to receive high-quality, compassionate feedback—you can work with one of two incredible editors who are completing advanced training under my direct supervision. Kristin Sancken and Lynn Shattuck are both accomplished writers, editors, and coaches devoted to helping others tell brave, healing stories. They offer manuscript evaluations, developmental feedback, and coaching sessions that combine deep empathy with a solid understanding of craft. Each project they take on is reviewed and discussed with me, ensuring you receive trauma-informed guidance grounded in craft, ethics, and care.

Meet The Editors
Kristin Thomas Sancken
Kristin was born in Panama, raised in Mexico, and came of age in Minnesota before settling in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she lives with her husband, two children, and an exuberant Golden Retriever. Her award-winning writing has appeared in The Guardian, HuffPost, and Columbia Journal, and she publishes regularly on her Substack, Sanctuary of the Holy Others. You can also learn more about her by checking out her website: https://sancken.com/
Kristin works with writers who are confronting inherited wounds, reclaiming their voices, and nurturing their resilience on the page. Her clients are often memoirists and nonfiction authors exploring creative nonfiction, intergenerational stories, and personal narratives. With specialties in religious trauma, mental health, family inheritance, and addiction, Kristin helps writers transform silence into story through trauma-informed critique, developmental editing, and one-on-one coaching that honors both craft and courage.

Lynn Shattuck
Lynn Shattuck writes about grief, parenting, and mental health. For ten years she was a columnist for Elephant Journal, where her essays on sibling loss and parenting reached millions of readers. She co-founded lossofalifetime.com, a community hub and resource center for those who’ve experienced sibling loss and co-edited the 2025 anthology The Loss of a Lifetime: Grieving Siblings Share Stories of Love, Loss, and Hope. You can learn more about her at lynnlshattuck.com.
Lynn partners with essayists and creative nonfiction writers who have powerful stories to tell but feel blocked by trauma, self-doubt, or life circumstances. She helps clients locate the emotional heart of their stories, build strategies for working with resistance, and develop self-care routines that sustain their creative process. Her compassionate, grounded approach helps writers unlock their truest stories and remember that it’s never too late to begin.
